My solution to a problem that arose in the previous assignment is to offer two separate courses - one for high school and one for college. For high school since there are challenges with sufficient funding, the unlikelihood of students enrolling for these classes, and the complicated nature of designing the class, my solution to this problem is by having shorter, mandatory sessions that mainly high school seniors attend. This way, they are required to learn the material but not necessarily have a full blown class to do so. The sessions could be taught by guest speakers who specialize in that field and could provide helpful advice so students learn from the source, and the school doesn't have to dedicate too much time and resources designing the class. At the college level the class could be more in depth to give more specific details and information.
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI think your solution is a great one and would be very beneficial for students coming out of high school and into college. I do agree with the fact that having guest speakers teach these sessions would be a great idea so that the school itself does not need to use many resources in building this program. I think that this would be very beneficial to high school students and for sure something that would interest them since it is more realistic than taking history or math classes.
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post, especially since I did a very similar idea for this assignment too, I think these skills are extremely important and I often find myself not knowing how to do some of these things without help from my parents. I like how you thought of sessions that were separate by accounting in school funding, which helps make the opportunity even more attainable.
Ashley, I really liked your idea and think this post is extremely smart and innovative. You did exactly what was taught and needed for the post. Your idea really helped and will fulfill the unmet need many students want. I would one hundred percent have benefited from a life skills class. I’m very excited to see where this idea goes with now.
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley, I think you have proposed a very innovative solution to your opportunity. Honestly, I didn't even consider the funding issue that you presented as being part of the problem for your solution, but I think you found out a pretty good way to get around that by not making it a full-blown class. I think this way would probably be the best way for students to learn without disrupting their "traditional" classes.
ReplyDeleteAshley,
ReplyDeleteI find this opportunity very relatable as most students graduate high school with little to no knowledge on how to handle the real world. I had a course as a senior in high school called "Senior Survival" that taught us all of these lessons; however, the class was optional. I believe making a mandatory program with sessions that students must participate in is a fantastic idea. I think this would prevent many students from financial hardship because of their increased knowledge on basic principles.
